South Korea's most popular sports are short track speed skating, taekwondo, archery and association football.

The South Korea national football team qualified for every FIFA World Cup since the 1986 tournament; but South Korea's best finish is fourth in 2002. The South Korea women's national football team didn't even take part in their first Women's World Cup until the 2003 tournament, the year after Korea finished fourth at the 2002 World Cup.

One of the most popular sports that South Korean athletes participate in the winter Olympics are normally in short track and in Summer Olympics, taekwondo. The country will host the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, the first to be held in a ski resort town since the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. It hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

South Korea has hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Japan, and it was a joint bid. They won a qualification tournament that lead both teams to every World Cup from 1998 in France to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Ben and Toad's Contest

South Korea will be used in week 3 of season 5 of Ben and Toad's Contest on the same week as the Asian Games closing; and will also be used in season 5 week 1 because of the Asian Games opening ceremony taking place there, and rain at Chicagoland Speedway. The best predictions of the two contestants who are fired are possibly Donny Osmond and Vita Semerenko. Semerenko was voted off in week 1.

Season 5 week 1 saw the red hot Koreans play against the higher-ranked Germans. The Germans won over Korea despite giving the Koreans a trip to the Dan Wheldon Memorial Event, and Germany didn't due to the non-participation of their contestant.

In season 6 week 5, the contestants will travel to South Korea; due to the cancellation of the IndyCar race in Brazil. The 2015 BATC Korea Open is a tennis tournament taking place there from March 2-8. The tournament was for contestants that don't play for Bosnia, Germany, Serbia, Slovakia, Croatia and Czech Republic.
