2003

Novak Djokovic (born May 22, 1987) is a Serbian tennis player. Djokovic rose to fame in 2007 when he started the year 14th in the world and ended at number three. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players in history.

Djokovic was the champion at the Australian Open six times, Wimbledon twice and US Open once. The French Open remains the only Slam he failed to become champion. He also won the ATP Masters at each tournament expect the Western and Southern Open.

Career

He turned pro in 2003.

2005: First Grand Slam

His first grand slam tournament was the 2005 Australian Open. He drew eventual champion Marat Safin in the first round and just won only three games. He made it to the main draw from the qualifying rounds, winning all three of his matches; including the 2014 Australian Open quarterfinal second round qualifying match against Stan Wawrinka.

2006

Djokovic got entry into the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments.

2007: Top three ranking

He started 2007 at number 14 in the world. Djokovic's ranking rose by playing better tournaments and earning more points.

2008: First Grand Slam title

He won the 2008 Australian Open title over the unseeded Jo Wilfried Tsonga.

2009

Djokovic was the defending champion for the 2009 Australian Open. He retired in the quarterfinals due to a heat illness while trailing Andy Roddick by 2 sets to one.
