The Netherlands is a country in Western Europe, bordering countries Belgium and Germany. Netherlands has hosted only one Olympic Games, the 1924 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.

The Dutch team has been dominate in speed skating since the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway, as 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley would be the only one that the Dutch failed to win a medal. They have won more speed skating medals than any other country at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, including both men's and women's team pursuit.

Sports

Netherlands hosts the Masters of Formula Three at Zandvoort; expect the 2007 and 2008 races. The Dutch has won a gold medal in snowboarding (first one out of speed skating since figure skating gold in 1964) went to Nicolien Sauerbreij. They have won a medal in short track speed skating, one by Sjinkie Knegt.

World Cup

The Dutch men are so powerful at soccer at the World Cup; having made three finals in 1974, 1978 and 2010; but lost all three of them. After making the semifinals in 1998, the Netherlands surprisingly failed to qualfiy for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

They lost to Spain at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa with a score of 1-0. The Spanish could not defeat the Dutch again at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on the group stage, so they lost 1-5. The Dutch won the bronze medal over hosts Flag of Brazil Brazil. The Dutch drew the game in two occasions: with Flag of Argentina Argentina in the semi-finals and Flag of Costa Rica Costa Rica in the quarterfinals. 16 months after finishing third in the 2014 World Cup, the Netherlands didn't even qualify for Euro 2016.

The Netherlands women's national football team didn't qualify for the first ever World Cup until 2015.
