Germany is a country in western-central Europe. It is bordered by France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland.

Germany's most popular sport is football. The Germany national football team won the World Cup four times: in 1954, 1974, 1990 as West Germany, and 2014. Notably during the World Cup in 2014, they defeated Neymar-less Brazil 7-1 in the semifinals.

The Germany women's national football team have the same success as the men's team, winning the Women's World Cup in 2003 and 2007.

Winter sports in Germany are also popular. The German athletes won more Olympic medals in skiing sports rather than sports held in the ice. West Germany hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics.

In tennis, at the 2016 Australian Open, Angelique Kerber won Germany's first Women's Singles title since 1999; stunning defending champion Serena Williams in three sets.
