Bulgaria is a country in southeastern Europe. It borders the Black Sea.

The Bulgaria national football team finished fourth at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, their best result at international tournaments. They surprised many by beating reigning World Champions Germany in the quarterfinal; the final score was predicted 3-0 to Germany but it ended 2-1 into the favour of Bulgaria. Currently the national team ranks out of the top 50 in the FIFA Rankings due to a Euro 2012 decline of the team.

Grigor Dimitrov and Tsvetana Pironkova made the Wimbledon semifinal in two different years, 2010 and 2014; both occasions Bulgaria failed to qualify their team for the FIFA World Cup. Dimitrov also made the 2017 Australian Open semifinals, a year after Poli Genova finished 4th at the Eurovision representing Bulgaria with her song "If Love Was a Crime"; and also the same year Bulgaria reached top 5 again in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest with Kristian Kostov representing his country with "Beautiful Mess". Magdalena Maleeva was ranked number four in 1996.
